Our goals
One of our main goals is to increase people's concern for animal welfare issues and to promote respect for all living beings
ANAA's main goal, towards which all our actions are directed, is to increase people’s concern for animal welfare issues and to promote respect for all living beings, for the purpose of ending the cruelty that animals suffer today.
Other important goals are:
- Animal advocacy and protection at large.
- Promoting responsible pet ownership as well as proper pet care.
- Preventing and reporting animal cruelty and abandonment.
- Preventing and exposing the use of animals in entertainment: shows, fights, local festivals, and any other activity that involves their mistreatment, neglect or abuse.
ANAA considers it a priority to address the problem of abandoned animals in Spain, a country that has one of the highest abandonment rates in Europe: according to a 2003 report by several European organizations, all members of the Eurogroup, there is one abandoned dog for every 450 people in Spain. According to this, the rate of abandonment in Spain was four times the average in Europe, and, at that time, almost nine times the rate of countries like the Netherlands.
This problem must be dealt with with short-term solutions: taking care of stray animals; but also with mid- and long-term actions like awareness-raising initiatives to prevent future abandonment and abuse.
